Mornington Peninsula Field school 2024
Applications are open
Ben Shaw will be leading the next Mornington Peninsula field school and will run from Sunday 4 Feb to Sunday 18 Feb 2024. The course is open to all ANU students and is included in the Master of Archaeological and Evolutionary Science program. Limited cross-institutional enrolments are available pending placement availability. No background in Archaeology or previous field experience necessary to apply. The field school is being run in partnership with leading Melbourne-based heritage consultancy Heritage Insight, the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, and Parks Victoria, and in collaboration with Heritage Victoria, First Peoples State Relations, and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council. Weekly Walk-in Coding and Statistics Clinic
Are you stuck with a coding problem, confused about a statistical procedure, or just want to talk through some technical aspects of your research? The Model Behaviour quantitative working group is opening a dedicated space where you can get one-on-one support for coding and statistical problems and help you through the technical aspects of your research, with a focus on research in CHL and CASS.
We are here to help with:
- Coding problems, with a particular focus on R & Python, such as:
- How to organise and structure your scripts
- How to wrangle data into a required format
- Statistical design, analysis, and interpretation.
- How to plan your statistical analysis
- How to interpret the summary of a multi-level or linear regression model
- Visualisation of data and results
- Other common coding-related tools like Git and Github, LaTeX, bash
Sessions are held in the Engma Room 3.165, H C Coombs Building, on Thursdays between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Help is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
No formal registration is required, but we encourage you to send us a note in advance if you are planning to come to ensure we have enough time to see everyone.

2023 Vocabulary Symposium – FAIR Vocabularies for All
14-15 Nov 2023
A two day hybrid event bringing together people from domains across multiple disciplines spanning research, government and industry, including those from the ARDC Thematic Research Data Commons. The aim is to communicate and promote approaches to using, developing, publishing, and maintaining vocabularies. The Symposium will cover Australian and international initiatives that demonstrate the impact and value of FAIR vocabularies for maximising the re-use value of data within and across domains. The Symposium is led by the ARDC, in partnership with ADA, AHRA, APPF, AURIN, AuScope, AusTraits, CODATA, IMOS, LDaCA, and TERN. Linguistic Futures reading group
Once a month the linguistic futures reading group we will be reading papers which have an eye on the future of the language sciences with a special focus on comparative approaches to language. The group will be held on the first Wednesday of every month in the Engma room (3.165) in the Coombs Building from 11am to 12noon. The SNSF is launching a new call under the transitional measure SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships for people of all nationalities who were aiming to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF). The scheme is open to all research disciplines and topics. This funding scheme will offer applicants with a PhD and no more than eight years of postdoctoral experience a position at a non-commercial research institution in Switzerland for 12-24 months.
